Now onto the interesting part - Car Rental discounts. Like other Frequent Flyer / Rewards Program, HawaiianMiles members can earn miles and get discounted rates when they rent from a partner agency.

Miles

HawaiianMiles members earn miles for each rental with a partner agency. From time to time, partners also offer promotions offering 2x and even 3x the usual miles

Alamo: 50 miles per day
Avis: 50 miles per day, maximum 250 per rental
Budget: 50 miles per day, maximum 250 per rental
Dollar: 50 miles per day with special offers for 2x miles
Hertz: 50 miles per day
National: 50 miles per day
Thrifty: 50 miles per day with special offers for 2x miles

But what do you do with all these miles? You can redeem your HawaiianMiles for Car Rental certificates that can be applied towards a future rental.

Alamo: $50 certificate for 10,000 miles and $100 certificate for 20,000 miles
Avis: $50 certificate for 10,000 miles, $100 certificate for 20,000 miles and $200 certificate for 40,000 miles
Budget: $50 certificate for 10,000 miles, $100 certificate for 20,000 miles and $200 certificate for 40,000 miles
National: $50 certificate for 10,000 miles and $100 certificate for 20,000 miles

While Car Rental Certificates may sound like a good deal, they're usually not. For starters, you can't combine them with other discounts, coupons and promotions. They can only to used to cover the basic rate of the rental and do not apply to taxes, surcharges, and other optional fees. They're valid only in participating locations (this may exclude New York Metro, Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska). Most companies also limit the number of certificates you can use on a single rental. Alamo and National limit you to 3 certificates, while Avis and Budget are generous and allow upto 5 certificates per rental. Unless your miles are expiring and you're likely to save more by using coupons and discounts.

HawaiianMiles discounts are now available on Zalyn. Simply head over to your Discounts Page and add HawaiianMiles to your profile.
